High Fiber Diet
Increased fiber in the diet is of great use for people dealing with intestinal disorders; fibers can’t be digested fully by the body and they aid in the repair and function of the large intestine.
The colon’s use is to complete digestion; a high fiber diet allows waste to pass through the intestine at not too slow or not too fast a speed to help with diarrhea and constipation or more serious disorders down the road. Fiber does this by expanding the walls of the colon and promoting contractions which keep food moving through the intestine.
A high fiber diet doesn’t have to shirk you from any balance in your food groups; just increase the fibrous food types and keep the rest of your nutrients and foods at adequate levels. This will help stool pass through much easier and will eliminate all sorts of rectal disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which can ultimately lead to diverticulitis of the colon.
Colon cancer, beginning first as a polyp, grows and ultimately becomes cancerous. This is most commonly found in Western Countries. It is believed that when the cancerous growth comes in contact with the body for too long, it becomes cancerous.
A high fiber diet can rectify this situation. Fiber is found in wheat, rye, bran, and other grains. There is also a host of fiber found in vegetables, oatmeal, oat bran, fruit, and barley among others. There are also supplements like Metamucil which offer this benefit.
You don’t have to be elderly to begin good fiber eating habits. In fact, if you begin with a good fiber regimen at a young age you should be a lot happier later on in life as you’ll be in a comfortable place with your eating habits but you’ll also be reaping the non cancerous benefits of good planning on the front end.
A high fiber diet and eating foods high in dietary fiber offer benefits that go well beyond the immediate needs of passing stool. A good, fibrous diet leads to all sorts of other benefits that can be felt for a long time to come.
