Grapefruit Diet
While it’s really no surprise that there is a company that’s tried to take the benefirts of weight loss, the healing effects of detoxification, and the ease of a diet drink, patch, and pill and tried to exploit it using the vehicle of the name recognition of good old Tinsel Town.
While there is a detox drink called “Hollywood Diet” – there are roots in this. You need to go all the way back to 1930 Hollywood. A diet, which peaked in the mid 70’s, is a strange little diet consisting of half a grapefruit with each meal or drank a serving of grapefruit juice 3 times a day were able to lose weight.
“The Grapefruit Diet” reduces insulin affecting blood sugar regulation. With the pancreas secreting insulin responding to carbohydrates ingested, grapefruit is thought to be lower in Glycemic Index and this fact helps the body burn fat.
Being an online retailer and the internet having no real jurisdiction or rules of decency, the Hollywood Diet has no problem making the claim that their eponymous grapefruit detox diet drink is in fact, “America's #1 selling detox diet drink.” With further reckless abandon they claim to “cleanse” and “detoxify” your body while helping you lose weight.
Hollywood Diet has many “acclaimed” drinks including he Hollywood 58 hour miracle diet drink and the Hollywood 24 hour miracle diet; the latter being “especially suited for a day-long juice fast.”
I don’t mean to speak so cynically, I just have a hard time taking anyone seriously who takes themselves so seriously. When this is obviously a con game of relentless proportions. Though they do talk the talk: Hollywood Diet is quoted as being made “from an all-natural blend of juices and botanical extracts, and then are fortified with the vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, and essential oils necessary to promote healthy conditions in your body.”
I’m not even really sure what that says; it sounds good but as far as I can tell “botanical extracts (and) essential oils” are made in skin care and skin cream should never be ingested.
Grapefruit diet of yore and the Hollywood diet detox eating plan says that you can lose up to five lbs in one day and 10 lbs in two days. I guess all I could think to say to that would be that if you just use this diet drink for a “shake down” of weight loss and don’t change your eating habits, those 10 lbs will be right back on.
In response Hollywood Diet has a “DailyMiracle” diet drink mix that you can get anytime you need a little pick me up. They also offer “multivitamin tablets” to help “nourish the body” as you move towards your weight loss goals.
Hollywood Diet is just like the City of Angels; all glitz, no substance, and hollow upon closer scrutiny. The Grapefruit diet is a whole lot of crushed melon.
