1200 Calorie Diet
Calorie restriction or the 1200 calorie diet is a very interesting proposition. Last time I checked the RDA was 2000 calories a day or 2500 calories a day. So we’re talking about almost half or more than half. The average person in a day takes in well over 2500 calories with snacking and all the liquid calories people take in, in the form of the 200 8 oz glass of soda or the triple venti whatever from Starbucks which all by itself probably ranks somewhere around 1000 calories.
So how do people do the 1200 calorie diet; who is it for? What’s the 1200 calorie plan? What kind of menu would people eat on 1200 calories a day?
Well, 1200 calorie diets (or less!) are typically for people who are severe or morbidly obese; people who need to lose weight to live. This diet, done in a healthy manner, is also a good idea for people who need to lose a big amount of weight in a short time period. You need to make sure you’re consulting with someone who knows what they’re doing like a doctor or dietician before undertaking this sort of severe action. It can be safe but you need to behave in a responsible manner.
Expect to lose around 3-5 pounds per week on a diet like the 1200 calorie plan. If you’re diabetic, make sure you speak with your doctor about going on the 1200 calorie diet before you do so.
In terms of danger, you run the risk of gallbladder disease following your participation in the 1200 calorie diet. Also, your metabolism can slow down as your body begins adapting so you brain and other bodily function won’t work as efficiently.
Your body may experience an imbalance in minerals upon shedding your caloric intake. For women osteoporosis, anemia, and her menstrual period can slow down, become irregular or even stop altogether.
Depression has been known to occur due to a lack of serotonin in the brain. Finally your body will break down muscle and lean body tissue so be careful and make sure and consult with your doctor before entering into the 1200 calorie diet.
